The Gaean Key Legend, according to the original description, is as follows:

... a letter for letter translation into English kind of language, but like its ancestors, Ancient Chinese, it must be pronounced and written by memorization. A single character is a combination of up to 3 letters from our English alphabet, and each word in the English alphabet follows a pattern of traits until the word is complete or when there are no more letters to fit into the last character. characters can have more than one of the same letter, which is signified in by small dots on the side of that character...
